The same as Flak 36 was a base for Tiger’s main gun, this one was a base to develop a gun for Elefant, Nashorn, and Jagdpanther. Flak 41 had the same caliber as Flak 36 (8,8cm) but used different ammunition with a much bigger propellant charge. Consequently, it also had a longer barrel and significantly higher initial projectile velocity and range. That last factor was crucial to firing against American bombers at high altitudes.
